Ethiopian Airlines on Saturday resumed its flight to the Nigeria’s commercial city of Kano 10 years after it suspended fights to the city because of bad weather.

The resumed flight had touched down at the Kano International Airport to a warm reception from Kano businessmen and politicians led by the state’s Deputy Governor, Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje.

Ganduje, who received the Airlines officials, pledged the state government’s support to sustain the operation of the four-weekly flight to the city.

He said that there was high demand of the airline services in the state.

The Chief Executive officer of the Airline, Tewolde Gebremariam, said the company would provide convenient connectivity options for the Nigerian travelling public to the Middle-East, Europe, Asia and the Americas.

“Passengers from Northern Nigeria will be able to enjoy the best possible connection to the extensive Ethiopian network with minimum layover in Addis Ababa.

“We are very pleased to reinstate our flights to Kano, which will greatly benefit the travelling public of Northern Nigeria.

“Ethiopian has an unwavering and proven commitment to the Nigerian travelling public.

“For close to 55 years, we have been providing reliable and world class service to Nigeria, long before any other foreign airline.

“As a truly indigenous Pan-African carrier, we consider our flights to Nigeria and elsewhere in our great continent as part of our responsibility to contribute to the development of Africa.

“It enables us to serve as a critically essential vehicle for job creation and the flow of investment, trade and tourism,’’ he said.

He commended the people and government of Nigeria for their support and patronage, and pledged to enhance the airline’s services for the benefit of the Nigerian travelling public.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Kano makes the airline’s 49th  African and 81st international destination across five continents with over 200 daily flights.

NAN reports that with the start of operations to Kano, Ethiopian will be offering 20 weekly flights to and from four cities in Nigeria.

Kano now becomes the airline’s fourth destination in Nigeria after Lagos, Abuja and Enugu.
